Window Replacement Process
Installation Methods
In Arizona, homes are typically constructed with block walls or stucco over wood framing, which determines the installation method used.
Block Homes
For homes with block walls, we remove old aluminum frames and install new windows directly onto the block. Proper measurement and sealing are essential to ensure a secure and energy-efficient fit.
Stucco Homes
Stucco homes require specialized installation methods to comply with building codes. Only two installation methods are permitted:
Frame-over-frame installation (jump frame):
The existing window glass is removed, but the aluminum frame remains.
A new vinyl or fiberglass window is placed over the existing frame.
This method prevents stucco damage and maintains the home’s water management system.
New construction installation:
Requires removing at least 6 inches of stucco around the window.
The old window is completely removed, exposing the rough opening.
A new window is installed using a nail fin and flashing to ensure a watertight seal.
The flashing is integrated into the home’s weather-resistant barrier (WRB) to prevent leaks.
The final step involves re-stuccoing the area around the window.
**Luft Windows does not offer jump frame installations, GEALAN European-style windows are designed for full-frame replacement. Leaving the old frame can cause air leaks, reduce glass area, and impact performance. Our method ensures maximum energy efficiency, durability, and fit. Beware of contractors who claim stucco removal isn’t necessary for a full-frame installation—this can lead to water damage and structural issues. At Luft Windows, we follow best practices to ensure long-lasting, high-quality installations**
